Vava Voom

So Bassnectar's new album VAVA VOOM came out a couple of weeks ago, and I had been putting off listening to it until I had time to get all the way through. It takes me a couple passes to fully digest dubstep because of the many dance music genres, I am not very fluent in it. First pass: what I expected, nothing standout. As I kept giving it listens, however, I liked it more and more. It's got a lot of that Caspa/old school dub feel which I am a huge fan of. My two favorite tracks are "Laughter Crescendo" which is an absolutely FANTASTIC chilled out tune with progressive sweeps and huge, yet subtle drops. A perfect driving song, and a new favorite of mine. If you gravitate towards the grimier side of dubstep, check out "Ping Pong" which has some really cool glitched sampling of real Ping Pong noises, which are audible as a percussive line throughout the tune, that heavy heavy sound coupled with a driving tempo make me actually prefer this song to the first single "Ugly". Oh, and speaking of "Ugly", if you go to Bassnectar's website, you can pick up a copy of that tune for free, as well as a cool presentation with a lot of purchase options (t-shirts & other merchandise). All in all, I think this is a pretty good dubstep album, and that's saying a lot from someone who is not the most affluent dubstep collector.
