Tritonal & Kaeno

So this matchup between Tritonal & Kaeno (I would not have even heard of them if I had not worked on booking them at Pacha) actually came up with a pretty neat tune. Was originally unimpressed with Tritonal's new CD, although they had like 5 #1's on Beatport Trance.

But this tune? Great vocal melody work, good uptempo drive, and a feel-good summer vibe make it a perfect tune to blast out your window this summer. It goes by the name of Azuca.

Sebastien Leger

Originally got turned on to Sebastien Leger through a remix he did of Format:b's track Dog Tag that I featured in Episode 005 of my podcast. Sebastien Leger is one of the funkiest tech-house producers I have come across, and this track is no different. And to really come full circle, this tune is Format:b's remix of Sebastien's track Wesh Wesh Wesh. [That link is to the Wesh Wesh Wesh single, which includes the original and Format:b remix, which are both awesome with slightly different flavors] Enjoy!

Deadmau5 & Tommy Trash

So if you haven't heard Deadmau5's epic new 9-minute offering, The Veldt, you've probably been living under a rock. It's awesome. It's the part of Deadmau5 that noone can argue has even come close to selling out. With Strobe-like atmosphere, this tune doesn't need to be talked about anymore by me.

But then again, that crazy Aussie Tommy Trash has just come up with his own interpretation, and from the beginning it just screams Trash. Deadmau5's extended edit offers a much more fluid, chilled out vibe, but Mr. Trash's engages his slightly more aggressive signature electro vibe, with a drum track sounding like it was borrowed from his hit release Future Folk. I'm honestly not sure which one I like better, so you be the judge for yourself.

Sound like Hardwell for Finals week 0.o

Sorry I've been aloof lately, working on a mix for next week and got a solid eau du Hardwell from Spinnin' Records. The name of the track is "Feelin' Kinda Strange" and has progressive Hardwell theme to it, just like "Cobra" Check it out!

Vava Voom

So Bassnectar's new album VAVA VOOM came out a couple of weeks ago, and I had been putting off listening to it until I had time to get all the way through. It takes me a couple passes to fully digest dubstep because of the many dance music genres, I am not very fluent in it. First pass: what I expected, nothing standout. As I kept giving it listens, however, I liked it more and more. It's got a lot of that Caspa/old school dub feel which I am a huge fan of. My two favorite tracks are "Laughter Crescendo" which is an absolutely FANTASTIC chilled out tune with progressive sweeps and huge, yet subtle drops. A perfect driving song, and a new favorite of mine. If you gravitate towards the grimier side of dubstep, check out "Ping Pong" which has some really cool glitched sampling of real Ping Pong noises, which are audible as a percussive line throughout the tune, that heavy heavy sound coupled with a driving tempo make me actually prefer this song to the first single "Ugly". Oh, and speaking of "Ugly", if you go to Bassnectar's website, you can pick up a copy of that tune for free, as well as a cool presentation with a lot of purchase options (t-shirts & other merchandise). All in all, I think this is a pretty good dubstep album, and that's saying a lot from someone who is not the most affluent dubstep collector.

Just found this post of Moguai's BBC Radio 1 mix. Two hours of Moguai? I like this, and so should you. Happy studying.

Funk A Tron

Do you remember the first song you played after a significant incident in your life? After your first kiss or the last song at the senior prom? For me, this song is one of those songs. The name of the tune is Funk-a-Tron, and it is the first song I played in my brand new car. Every time I hear it I am immediately taken back to that moment, and that is why this song is so great to me.
But that's not the end of this story. Recently, I got my hands on the Miami Fever 2012 compilation, which is fantastic and spans many genres of dance music, and it included a remix from one of my favorite artists right now, Tocadisco. This track is a solid funky dance number and carries much of the original feel. This song is going to be a staple in my sets from now on.

New Podcast + Tocadisco Tune

Last night I spun live from Pacha, and for my monthly mix I figured it made sense to record straight off the board. So here I present to you my podcast live from Pacha. It was also my first time using a rotary mixer, so some of the stuff is a little rough around the edges but I think I ended up liking it a little better in the long run.
Also, I want to present this week's tune of the week, from way back in 2007 Tocadisco's season closing set from Ibiza. The name of the tune is Music Loud, and that's exactly how it should be played.

Thoughts on Avicii??

Do you remember the first time you heard Avicii's levels? That gleaming moment of euphoria when you've first discovered something awesome? I just stumbled on this thanks to my roommates, who for the most part don't even like dance music at all. And what a discovery it is.
This guy goes by the name of Dave Audé and the fact that he has escaped my attention and headliner status for this long is a crime.
So here is Dave Audé's remix of Rihanna's "You Da One"

Congo ROCKS

Special post today:
My boy Congorock is releasing hit after hit lately. Sirius followed by Ivory (quirky but a banger, especially on a full system) and now this two for one package EP. Congorock has become an immediate follow on Beatport after seeing him live at Pacha on New Years with Benny Benassi last year. Download this record, clicking the image below will take you to Beatport's holding of the album. Enjoy!

Afrojack

This week's tune of the week comes from a staple of club house music, Afrojack. Immediately upon seeing he had released a new single, I went to go download it and said, "Welp, definitely Afrojack." And in no way is that depressing.
And for those who appreciate something a little more groovy, here is a tune by Arcade Mode that has been remixed by Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso (BBQ Mix? wtf?)

As usual, feel free to comment and subscribe to my podcast!!

Spring Break Mix

In honor of the miracle that is spring break, I have decided to put out a special HOUR LONG (plus a bonus tune) podcast. The iTunes store has been a little slow in adding the new episode, but if you're subscribed it should be available RIGHT NOW for download! The first half is more upbeat electro stuff, and for the second half I decided to get a little more progressive/trancey, but tried to maintain that upbeat spring break feel. So subscribe, download, comment, enjoy!
This week's tune of the week is actually included in the special podcast, but I will share a separate link for it here.
The tune has an awesome offbeat lead synth that allows the drops to sneak in under you. Very unpredictable, very cool. Okay that about does it for me this week, so enjoy your spring break everyone!

Mix of the Month February 2012

So the day has finally arrived: a new mix! Unfortunately I am halfway done with about 8 tracks right now (conservative estimate) so this mix is not incredibly original, but all of the included tunes are phenomenal. Embedded here is the youtube video with tracklisting in the description. Share your thoughts!

Closing out that mix is the tune of the week, a track named Mozart produced through another awesome Mat Zo & Arty collaboration. If you're unfamiliar with Arty and are a fan of big room trance and progressive house, go download everything this kid has ever produced.

That about wraps up my post for this week, as usual don't forget to leave me a comment if you like what you hear.

SHM and Todd Terje

We're all in for a treat today. Looks like SMH dropped a massive set on BBC Radio 1 on Friday, and I have it here for you today, with a dl link. Deadmau5 even came by and played a couple of his tunes, and there is plenty of unreleased goodness in there.

This other tune I downloaded a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if I'm a huge fan of his other works, but this one has much more of a progressive feel to it, which I always tend to like. If you have a spare 8:22, I implore you to have a listen.

And lastly, remember I said I would be introducing a monthly mix. I'm about halfway through it right now, so it looks like it will be ready for next week. Get excited.

Sunday Funday

New song of the week. Or songs of the week, if you prefer, since both of these tunes carry a lot of energy and I could not pick between them. The first is by someone relatively unknown to myself, but he played Pacha the other day and I like the completely different direction he's taken. Unfortunately the full version isn't on soundcloud, nor can you dl the teaser, but I'm pretty sure there are some popular workarounds The second track is by Tommy Trash, who has been clogging up my "Hot, Fresh 'n' New" playlist lately. Good tune by a solid producer who's having a solid year.
Leave a comment if you like my choices, or leave one telling me what an idiot I am for missing much better tracks. Either way.

Schedule Updates

It's been awhile since I've made any updates to either the site or the blog, but I'm planning on rolling out some new updates. First, I'm introducing a tune of the week section, where every week I will introduce you guys to a new tune that I've been playing alot. Second, I'm going to put out a new mix once a month.

So here's the first tune of the week! A solid tune by Mogaui on Mau5trap, I think Michael Woods did a fantastic job smoothing it out and making it super danceable.
And just because I was feeling this tune so much, I knocked a remix of it yesterday, let me know what you guys think of it =)
So there's the tune of the week, enjoy!
